Editorial
A slightly streamlined but very active UK Direct slips into April. Visitors to the Roster by hours page will see that out of our 85 strong membership only 4 pilots are 'inactive'. Personally I was pleasantly surprised and encouraged, after seeing a period where our membership seemed to be diminishing, to see that our smaller number of pilots are obviously more interested in our v.a. to keep putting in the hours, than some of their predecessors. A visit to new launch v.a.'s will often reveal the same names appearing time and time again. To those people I say that I hope you find the v.a. of your dreams, but if you don't then fear not another will be along shortly! Meanwhile, to our pilots I say, have a good time being part of our continued success.
Management News
Two pieces of news worth mentioning this month are that James 154, Online supremo, master painter and all round good bloke has informed us that he will be less active in his input to UK Direct for a while. He has to create the fine balance between real world hard work and recreational activities at UKD whilst he studies for his Phd. He assures us that this is some sort of educational qualification and not the new v.a., Pentland Hills Direct offering a full International and regional service out of Biggar International Airport.

The second Manager to take leave is Mark 171 " Hello sailor" Greenough, who is off at Her Majesty's request to top up his suntan in the Gulf. Rumours that the initials HMS stand for the new cargo v.a., Hormuz Mail Services - offering the full range of International and regional pigeon post in everything from Concorde to a Wright Flyer, are completely unfounded.
Online Numbers Grow?

Caught online last month were a large 'herd' of Unicorns all heading for Manchester......why not give it a try? It can't be that difficult because I can do it!
Smoke Gets in your files...
Matt 131 wrote requesting information on the smokin' effect files for ageing airliners. For You Matt and anyone else that's interested the files are obtainable from the Historic Jetliner Group site at : http:// avsim.com/hjg There are two files available, both being stated as optimized for FS02, by Marco Balzarotti, one for the 707/720 and the other for the DC8. As I haven't used these I can't comment on their suitability for other FS versions. Remember you must be at least 16 to download these files. It is also an offence for anyone to obtain these files for you if you are under 16, Finally, every file carries a Government Health Warning.
Eat my Shorts!

VERY nice job fleet painters, nuff said really.
TTools
Well blow me! There I was looking at the latest files at Flightsim.com when I saw that our Matt Wright had produced a set of files to be used with the FS02 utility TTools. Although this will not fill the virtual skies with identical UKD AI aircraft as they are not suitable (yet!) for recognition purposes. Using this file in conjunction with Traffic Tools will make the skies sound full of UKD aircraft going about their daily roster duties. Matts file includes information for CDA, CDAC, UKS, UKE and UKWC flights as well ! Nice work Matt. The file is available from the UKD file section or from Flightsim.com. Possibly others too.
BAC1-11 Visits Miami for the last time

Approaching the Florida coast on a FOWEE 3 STAR.
Due to the introduction of increased noise restrictions for aircraft flying into the USA our Stage 2 hush-kitted 1-11's are no longer welcome at KMIA. On 31st March VP-CDC dropped into Miami from Juliana via Nassau for the last time. After a longer than normal turn-around the 1-11 left for the return flight.

Flying the SKIPPS Miami 3 departure for the last time VP-CDC climbs out after take off from 27L.
No decision has yet been made on the future of this route
Start -Up Screens?
Mark flippin' Greenough is getting just too good at this screenshot lark that I'm going to hang up my camera. He has, with the aid of a really nice utility , created a set of Screens for FS02. Judge for yourself. I'm not sure if he'll be making them available for download as they are quite large files but in the meantime enjoy....For more information on this FREE utility visit Dreamfleet's web site using this link: http://www.dreamfleet2000.com/Downloads/SSR.html

........and finally

You are cleared to taxi to the harbour and drop anchor. (There is obviously a lot more to learn about this air file tweaking ! ed.)
The above is an example of how to achieve 100% on the adventure, get a smooth (soggy) landing, extra marks given award, yet still have time to retract flaps, apply the parking brakes, get your adventure code and climb into your dinghy before the aircraft disappears into the depths! No Mark , I didn't send the PIREP in honest!
